La Chinata Pimentón de la Vera Dulce (Smoked Paprika)

Oak-smoked sweet paprika · La Chinata · Spreads & condiments · La Vera (Extremadura)

must-try

Why it's worth it

Pimentón de la Vera is the smoked paprika behind chorizo, pulpo a la gallega and countless Spanish dishes, dried slowly over oak fires in the La Vera region of Cáceres. La Chinata is the export-famous brand, and the smoky sweet powder is quite different from the plain sweet mletá paprika on Czech shelves, which makes a tin a genuinely useful Spanish pantry take-home.

Taste

Deep-red sweet (dulce) smoked paprika with a pronounced oak-smoke aroma; warm, mild and smoky rather than hot

Czech sweet mletá paprika is the category cousin, but it is not smoked over oak like pimentón de la Vera
